For 6 years Abena Lauber worked for Human Rights Watch. In her role as Associate Director, Development and Outreach, she was responsible for the organisation of their annual fundraising dinners, which saw an impressive growth over the years reaching CHF 2 million Swiss franc in 2014. Abena led the organisation of their first strategic donor acquisition event on Lake Geneva in 2011. Abena contributed to donor acquisition, cultivation and stewardship strategies for their Geneva-based major donors.
In early 2000 she worked for the International Road Transport Union, as their Deputy Head of Events where she organised nine international events in five years, which included three international Congresses hosting one thousand five hundred participants from more than sixty countries.
Prior to establishing herself as a "socialpreneur" in 2017, Abena collaborated with Dr. Mukwege, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize co-laureate, and his team to set up the Dr. Mukwege Foundation in Geneva. Abena facilitated the establishment of a local community of supporters, secured local funding and participated in the organisation of a public event at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrice gathering more than forty survivors of sexual violence from various countries with some one hundred guests in attendance.
Ms Lauber brings 20 years of professional knowledge and experience to her independent activity as a fundraising consultant. Committed to make a difference, she works with NGOs and associations seeking funding for local or international projects aimed at making a positive societal impact. Abena Lauber provides strategic advice and more importantly takes on an active role, in partnership with her clients, to implement concrete actions that serve the client’s goals. Abena works with clients to leverage key networks and to establish win-win partnerships. She is committed to help small and medium-sized NGOs and association build their capacity in mobilising the much-needed resources to make a significant and sustainable impact.
Ms Lauber has a diverse network in the greater Geneva and beyond Switzerland. She is fluent in both English and French.
Abena is an active professional and mother of 3 children aged 8, 12 and 18 years old. Abena dedicates time to training and personally investigating the complexities behind relationship dynamics, she uses her experience in relational psychotherapy to coach clients and question key relational dynamics that can unlock clients' potential for success.
Abena is a board member of Humanium, since 2016. Humanium is a local association defending children's rights. She is also a committee member of Alveo.Design, an association offering specialised services in communications as well as collaborative communications solutions for NGOs and associations.
In her spare time Abena is a sports coach and she is a member of the Flag21 a local initiative aimed at improving integration opportunities for migrants through sports.
